Music Therapy

BPP Music Therapy is conducted by an accredited music therapist, using Orff instruments in the treatment activities, while assessing client needs in the design of a customized treatment plan.

Developmental Music Therapy for Children 3 to 5 years old

Objectives include:

• increased potential ability

• increased verbal/non-verbal expression of feelings

• increased attention span

• improved interpersonal skills

• improved memory skills

• maintain/improve gross/fine motor functioning.

Music Therapy for Elderly

• increase ability to complete activities of daily living

• maintain a range of motion

Music therapy sessions are available in group or individual one-to-one settings. The length of the sessions can vary, but are usually 30 to 60 minutes, one to two times a week.

Music therapy sessions usually begin with a familiar "hello" song and end with a summary "good-bye" song. All other session activities are individualized.

Music therapy treatment sessions may include one or more of the following types of music activities / interventions:

• movement, games and social interaction activities

• song-writing and lyric analysis/discussion

• vocal and instrumental improvisations

• music relaxation and guided imagery activities
